Purpose

Operations Technician / Senior Operations Technician:

The incumbent operates all equipment and facilities in his assigned area safely and efficiently, maintaining them in good condition. He works closely with a team, highlighting safety, quality, and efficiency issues.

Senior Operations Technician:

The incumbent ensures the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of assigned process stages. He maintains associated facilities and assists the production superintendent in directing technicians and deputies as needed.

Key Responsibilities Area
  • Performs batch/unit or ancillary operations safely and efficiently following SOPs; leads technicians during unit operations; takes process samples and checks with analytical instruments.
  • Conducts routine mechanical and lubrication checks; performs early maintenance and repairs using hand tools.
  • Handles materials using hand-pallet trucks, reach trucks, or other equipment safely following SOPs.
  • Ensures correct recording and compliance of batch and operation logs.
  • Adheres to Good Documentation Practices and ALCOA+ principles; manages document errors per procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with superiors and colleagues; provides shift handovers highlighting safety, quality, and production status.
  • Performs engineering tasks during process runs, plant configuration, or maintenance, e.g., filter changes, equipment replacements.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety in the assigned area; ensures PPE and safety equipment are ready for use.
  • Performs firefighting and first-aid duties as trained.
  • Troubleshoots plant issues to minimize downtime and incidents.
  • Proposes and implements improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by superiors.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Professional

  • Diploma in Chemical Process Technology, Chemical Technology, or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a pharmaceutical API plant
  • Experience in rotating shift work

Technical

  • Knowledge of GMP and safety procedures
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of industrial standards
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of production and utility equipment
  • Plant inspection skills (for supervisory roles)
  • Permit-to-Work and Risk Assessment knowledge (for supervisory roles)
  • Ability to correct documentation errors
