Purpose

Operations Technician / Senior Operations Technician:
The incumbent operates all equipment and facilities in his assigned area safely and efficiently, maintaining them in good condition. He works closely with the team, emphasizing safety, quality, and efficiency.

Senior Operations Technician:
Responsible for the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of assigned process stages. Ensures facilities are well-maintained and assists the production superintendent with work directions for technicians and deputies.

Key Responsibilities Area
  • Performs batch/unit operations safely and efficiently, following SOPs, leading technicians, and conducting process checks.
  • Performs routine mechanical and lubrication checks; carries out early maintenance and repairs using hand tools.
  • Handles materials safely using appropriate equipment.
  • Maintains accurate batch and operation logs, adhering to Good Documentation Practices and ALCOA+ principles.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors and colleagues, providing shift handovers highlighting safety, quality, and efficiency issues.
  • Conducts engineering-related tasks during process runs and plant changeovers, including equipment preparation and maintenance.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety in the assigned area, ensuring PPE and safety equipment are ready for use.
  • Performs firefighting and first aid duties as trained and assigned.
  • Troubleshoots plant issues to minimize stoppages and incidents.
  • Proposes improvements and supports departmental initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Professional

  • Diploma in Chemical Process Technology, Chemical Technology, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a pharmaceutical API plant.
  • Experience in rotating shift work.

Technical

  • Knowledge of GMP and safety procedures.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of industrial standards.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of production and utility equipment.
  • Plant inspection skills (for supervisory roles).
  • Familiarity with Permit-to-Work systems and Risk Assessments (for supervisory roles).
  • Ability to correct documentation errors following procedures.

Business

  • Good communication skills.

Competencies

  • Teamwork, problem-solving, analytical thinking, planning and organization, leadership skills.
