Adecco is partnering with an agri-commodities trading and shipping company, specializing in the movement of dry bulk cargo, with commercial and chartering operations based in Singapore.

The Opportunity:

We are partnering with a well-established player in the agri-commodities trade, actively seeking a Senior Charterer to manage bulk shipping operations across global markets, mainly for agri-commodity shipments in bulk. This is a strategic and hands-on role that works closely with commercial, logistics, and operations teams to ensure vessels are secured efficiently and profitably.

The Job:

Chartering Strategy & Execution

  • Collaborate with traders to plan shipping needs, factoring in contracts, cargo volumes, port restrictions, and market conditions.
  • Monitor dry bulk market trends, freight rates, and competitor activity to advise on freight strategy.
  • Source and fix vessels on various charter types (voyage, time, COA, period), ensuring alignment with cargo specs and scheduling windows.
  • Negotiate and finalize Charter Party terms.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with shipowners, brokers, and vessel operators.

Vessel Operations

  • Coordinate the vessel nomination process, appoint shipping agents and surveyors, and ensure smooth cargo loading and discharge.
  • Prepare voyage costings and manage execution to optimize performance.
  • Track and maintain voyage and chartering records, and assess voyage profitability.
  • Take ownership of operational issues, claims, and dispute resolution post-fixture.

Efficiency & Improvement

  • Identify areas to streamline processes, reduce shipping costs, and improve turnaround times.
  • Use data and voyage analytics to improve decision-making and support business goals.
  • Work cross-functionally with the trading, logistics, and execution teams to enhance coordination and workflow.

Governance & Risk

  • Ensure all activities meet international shipping regulations and environmental standards.
  • Proactively assess and manage shipping-related risks and operational exposures.

The Talent:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Management, International Business or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in chartering or freight operations, preferably in dry bulk/agri-commodity shipping.
  • Proficient in Excel and chartering tools/platforms (e.g. IMOS shipping software).
  • Understanding of agri-commodity trade flows and seasonal market patterns.
  • Strong commercial awareness of global freight markets, with excellent problem-solving, risk assessment, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities, combined with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple shipments and chartering tasks efficiently.
  • Knowledge of international shipping regulations is a plus.
