
Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care services, emergency services, and other procedures in the Intensive Care Units and General Ward. He/she will assist the physicians in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardio-respiratory diseases and related disorders.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide clinical respiratory services.
- Perform complete or modified patient respiratory assessment as required on an ongoing basis.
- Consult with physicians and other health care professionals regarding the patient status and care plans.
- Monitor patient's progress and modify respiratory care plan as needed.
- Participate in the multidisciplinary patient rounds and conferences.
- Document procedures, organize and analyze data, and maintain accurate records.
- Adhere to hospital and department operating procedures in the delivery of respiratory services.
- Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services, emergency services, and other procedures. These are:
a. Diagnostic Procedures:
- Apnea Monitoring
- Arterial Blood Gas sampling & analysis
- Bedside ventilator monitoring
- Bronchoscopy Assist
- End Tidal CO2 monitoring (Capnography)
- Invasive and Non-invasive ventilator monitoring
- Pulse oximetry
- Spontaneous Breathing Trial
- Transcutaneous Carbon Dioxide Monitoring (TcCO2)
- Weaning parameters
b. Therapeutic Services:
- Continuous aerosol and humidity therapy
- Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
- Mechanical ventilation
- Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NiPPV)
- Oxygen therapy
- Proning of mechanically ventilated patients
c. Emergency Services:
- Artificial respiration
- Endotracheal intubation (assist)
d. Others
- Airway Management
- Bedside Percutaneous Tracheostomy Assist
- Provide patient and family home care education on the usage and maintenance of respiratory home care equipment.
Transport of mechanically ventilated patient.
Provide technical support to respiratory equipment
Perform troubleshooting and basic maintenance of respiratory equipment.
- Perform required calibration and quality control of respiratory equipment.
- Comply with safety regulations related to equipment and medical gases.
- Ensure proper functioning of respiratory equipment.
GENERAL
- To participate in departmental quality assurance and hospital-wide organizational (performance improvement activities.
- To comply with infection control practices.
- To monitor and update daily workload and statistics.
- To monitor when filters, membranes or other parts of respiratory equipment are due for replacement.
- To undertake any other duties as may be assigned.
- Embrace continuous improvements as our way of life by improving and refining work performance on a daily basis.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Recognized degree in Respiratory Therapy
- Preferably with 2 to 3 years clinical ICU experience
