**BUSINESS AREA**
Asia Area is an exciting area that spans over India, ASEAN, Taiwan and South Korea. There are nine AstraZeneca markets and several frontier markets served by appointed local distributors. As Medical Director, you'll be accountable for the strategic direction, business/resource planning, and team leadership of the Medical Affairs function across the nine markets in Asia Area. You'll direct and support this function to ensure that we achieve scientific leadership and transform patient outcomes by serving the needs of patients and ensuring medical affairs plans and activities have strong scientific bases and are conducted to the highest standards of integrity. A key focus area is leading the patient centric digitalization and innovation agenda in Asia Area.
Consistent with Asia Area's ambitions and priorities, you will support our Asia Area Vice President in determining the medical strategic initiatives at the area and in the markets. You will work closely with our Country Presidents and their teams in the achievement of our priorities. You will be a member of the Asia Area Leadership Team, International Medical Affairs Leadership Team, and be a member of our Global Medical Affairs team.
**What you'll do**:
As Asia Area Medical Director, you will:
- Lead the setting of area medical affairs strategic direction and priorities leveraging global and regional input.
- Ensure execution of leading International Medical brand strategies including pre-launch readiness.
- Ensure key global brands have strong, evidence based, scientifically leading medical brand plans in markets/area that define the unmet medical needs and products differentiation.
- Provide support for the implementation of growth strategy initiatives that involve global and local Life Cycle Management, second brands, fixed dose combination products and “gap filler” products not launched in markets, and business development activities.
- Strengthen Medical capabilities, including field-based medical support, medical information, medical compliance, medical affairs strategy and plans with support from the Global and International medical team.
- Be accountable for developing talent in Medical and creating a positive, people caring, vibrant, patient centric, creative, collaborative working environment where people have the courage to speak up and everyone strives to continuously improve performance.
- Coach and mentor market Medical Directors and Area Medical Brand/Therapeutic Area Leads.
- Be the Area Lead Nominated Signatory - point of contact for complaints, and be accountable for all NomSig process and activities.
- Ensure Asia Area is in compliance with local regulations and global standards including those for nominated signatory governance, Medical Information, Field Medical, Medical Affairs, and Study development and publication.
- Promote collaboration with markets, regional and international teams and Global Medical Affairs in ensuring alignment of brand strategy and execution, study design, delivery and communication, and medical excellence.
- Work with Global Clinical Operations on interventional study designs, feasibilities, investigator selection and study communications.
- Be accountable and deliver the Area Medical Affairs Scorecard priorities.
**Essential Requirements**:
- Qualified Medical Doctor and/or PharmD and/or PhD in a scientific discipline.
- Strong knowledge of patient centric digital innovation and solution in medical affairs and healthcare.
- Deep understanding of Medical Affairs.
- Positive track record of experience as a Medical Director in market plus significant above market or global experience.
- Ability to lead cross-functional working groups and teams
- Experience in leading, motivating and empowering others to accomplish individual, team and organizational objectives.
- Extensive experience of Medical Affairs within a pharmaceutical industry and significant understanding of the overall drug development process and stakeholder management.
- Ability to influence strategically to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive interpersonal relationships.
**Desirable Requirements**:
- Has experience working and/or leading a Medical Affairs teams in a regional team or a large pharmaceutical market.
- Able to travel within Asia Area as a requirement for the role.
- Deep knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory expectations.
- Fluency in other Asian languages would be advantageous.
