Power Trader

Optiver is seeking an experienced Power Trader to lead and assist the build out of a new desk focussed on trading the Australian Power markets. This is a true greenfield site opportunity with strong financial backing and the potential to have significant impact in the firm. **WHAT YOU'LL DO**
- Set up an Australian power trading operation in ASX listed Futures and Options
- Build trading strategies in the Australian power markets
- Build or guide the development of models and other analytics
- Work with other departments to build adequate risk management frameworks
- Collaborate with existing trading desks to leverage Optiver knowledge and infrastructure
- Help hire the right talent to expand the team: traders, analysts, researchers
- Train junior traders that join the desk

**WHO YOU ARE**

Essential:

- Proven experience trading Australian power e.g. Be part of a prop desk trading Australian power F&O
- Deep understanding and interest in the fundamentals of Australian and global energy markets
- Experience working with power (and gas) models
- Understanding of the competitive landscape and players of the Australian energy markets. Good relationships with gentailers, brokers and major players in the industry
- Entrepreneurial spirit and interest in building a trading business
- A track record in risk-taking and risk management with a strong understanding of quantitative pricing models
- Familiar with weather data and models
- Data analysis skills: Python, SQL, VBA or others

Desirable:

- Options trading experience highly favoured
- Japanese power experience highly regarded
- Interest in mentorship and training of junior traders
- Experience at a Gentailer is a benefit
- Experience trading OTCs and securing PPAs is a bonus
