Job summary
Would you like to be part of a public policy team that is driving the adoption of cloud computing in Asia-Pacific? Do you want to lead strategy development for a rapidly growing APJ Public Policy team? Do you want to play an instrumental role in shaping our communications to government and other key stakeholders? AWS is looking for an enthusiastic, creative and detail-oriented digital policy manager. This role will have four major functions:
- Drive APJ Digital Policy Strategy. Lead APAC strategy development on prioritized issues, and support the Head of Digital Policy (APJ) in drafting strategy documents, developing big bets, and high-impact, scalable initiatives to achieve Public Policy goals.
- Lead Digital Policy Initiatives. Lead regulator education efforts and content development initiatives. Develop position papers and advocacy documents to support advocacy goals in APJ; help align policy position across key functions (business, security legal, PR); help develop AWS’ position on emerging issues where no firm view exists; and ensure consistency in position across the AWS business on core policy issues.
- Help Create the Policy Function. Create systems and processes to support the development of a world-class APAC public policy function, including collaboration tools for use with internal stakeholders, information-sharing resources, and mechanisms to improve efficiency and coordination.
- Support the Digital Policy Team. Contribute to team documents, project management, and cross-geographical or regional strategic initiatives.
- Exceptional research skills, including ability to find new sources of information (e.g., data points) to support policy positions (past publications are a plus);
- Exceptional writing skills, including ability to synthesize policy documents and complex issues for internal and external customers and ability to convince through writing;
- Excellent analytical skills, including ability to dive deep on regulations by understanding how legislative and regulatory proposals may impact the AWS business, ability to identify weaknesses in policy documents and propose solutions;
- Comfortable working in ambiguous environments; self-starter that can use good judgment and resourcefulness to take action in the absence of clear guidance; ability to “manage up” to ensure you get what you need to be effective;
- Ability to design, propose and implement systems and processes to support a world-class public policy team, including internal tools and coordination systems;
- Exceptional time-management skills; including ability to prioritize and manage competing demands on your time;
- Proven ability to work in teams, especially coordinating across functions;
- Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity;
- Experience developing position papers and formal submissions for government agencies;
- Experience in the technology sector, in particular knowledge of cloud-computing related issues.
- Previous role in a public policy or related team so as to bring best practices in team management and coordination to our function
- Fluency in an East Asian language is a plus;
- Advanced degree is preferred.
