Environmental and Social (E&S) Manager_**

Involved in the Asian power market our client aims to contribute to the ongoing energy demand of a fast-changing and dynamic market, from low carbon electricity production to smart energy services.

Headquartered in Singapore, the International Division Asia of the company is responsible for delivering the Group’s strategy in Asia.

As Environmental and Social (E&S) Manager supporting the International Division Asia’s regional portfolio of activities, you will work with dynamic cross-functional and cross-cultural teams located in Singapore, across the Southeast (SEA) and South Asia regions, and in France. You will: ensure the E&S risks of potential projects are identified at an early stage and appropriate mitigations put in place; and that the Group’s commitments to health, safety, environment, human rights are upheld. You will report directly to the Senior Vice President Asia based in Singapore, and have a functional reporting line to the Head of Environmental and Social, International Division, based in France.

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Screen potential investment projects against identified environmental and social (E&S) risk criteria aligned with international financial institution (IFI) standards
- Work collaboratively with the International Division Asia Project Directors and Business Developers to: contribute technical input about E&S matters to tenders/bids (as relevant); and integrate E&S aspects within project development documentation.
- In close collaboration with the Head of Environmental and Social, International Division, plan E&S resourcing for projects at various phases of the project lifecycle; from feasibility assessment through development, operations, and decommissioning phases.
- Finalise the Draft International Division Asia Environmental and Social Strategy.
- Implement the approved International Division Asia Environmental and Social Strategy in an adaptive manner, working in close collaboration with the Senior Vice President Asia and Head of E&S, International Division.
- Work collaboratively with International Division Asia’s partners to harmonise a standard E&S approach across the regional portfolio of International Division Asia activities.
- Contribute to ongoing development of Group E&S policies, procedures, tools/templates. This includes drawing on lessons learned and proposing innovations.

**Requirements**:

- Master's degree in Environmental Management, Social Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Business Management, or similar field.
- 5-8 years’ directly relevant work experience in Southeast/South Asia/other international locations, in identifying and managing both environmental and social risks, impacts, and opportunities of complex infrastructure projects in alignment with international good practice. Experience in the design and/or implementation of environmental and social management systems (ESMS) and Plans (ESMPs) for infrastructure projects is an advantage.
- Combination of in-house (Project) and consultancy experience is preferred.
- Experience in screening and due diligence, and the design and implementation of activities related to land acquisition and compensation, resettlement, ethnic minorities/indigenous peoples’ development, social management is an advantage.
- Strong strategic and analytical skills including ability to synthesise diverse social and environmental data from a range of sources, in collaboration with in-country teams.
- Strong communications, problem-solving & information management skills including ability to clearly articulate E&S risks and issues and readily advise practical solutions.
- Strong understanding of project development and the construction and operation of large-scale capital infrastructure projects; including in the hydropower sector; that includes specificities of Project Finance and implications for E&S activities
- Mastery and practical experience of International Financing Institution (IFI) and commercial bank E&S requirements.
- Technical background, familiarity with the energy sector would be an advantage.
- Self-starter able to function effectively within a variety of countries and contexts with strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.
- Team player experienced in working within multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams.
- Ability to travel frequently to developing countries in and provide in-country E&S support to teams across Southeast and South Asia (COVID-19 situation permitting).
- Excellent verbal and written English language skills are essential and French language is highly desirable to liaise with the HQ. Knowledge of other relevant languages is an asset.
