About the Venture

Acoustic Shearography

Acoustic shearography is an advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) technology that uses coherent laser light to rapidly and thoroughly inspect metallic and composite materials. It offers high-speed, deep detection of defects, making it ideal for large structures and high-volume product inspections. Developed to improve speed and efficiency in manufacturing, acoustic shearography outperforms traditional methods with inspection speeds over 100 times faster than ultrasound and detection depths up to 30mm in carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and 100mm in metals.

Cost-effective and capable of real-time defect visualisation, this technology is well-positioned for commercialization. The technology is sourced from one of our RI partners and stands at TRL 5, with a working prototype available.

The global NDT market was valued at USD 18 billion in 2023, forecasted to grow significantly at a CAGR of 7.6% until 2030, with acoustic shearography set to capture a substantial share due to its innovative capabilities and strong market potential.

CEO & Co-founder Requirements

You are an excellent big-picture thinker who is deliberate and does not get impatient dealing with details, as you believe the devil is in the details. You are also practical and hands-on as you drive the team towards growth, leveraging your extensive network and resources to bring new solutions to market.

Ideally, you would be a domain expert in non-destructive testing with at least 10 years of work experience and your last role in a management capacity. Bonus points if you have had both corporate and startup experiences.

- Be acquainted with sound corporate governance structures.
- Conduct market research and analyse trends and data to make well-informed business decisions.
- Take an active role in product development, making both high-level and minute decisions before you go to market.
- Successfully promote your products before they go to market, build anticipation and create demand.
- Excel at recruiting, hiring and retaining talented and dedicated staff members who can help bring the founding team’s vision to life.
- Have a solid grasp of financial planning and forecasting, and should be able to set milestones and budgets to ensure solvency and long-term growth.
