**RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Department**

Freight Operations provide commercial, logístical and administrative support to JERAGM and is responsible on a day-to-day basis for the timely implementation and execution of freight and commercial transactions, to ensure that all obligations arising from the COAL contracts and charter parties are met and carried out professionally.

The team is responsible on a day-to-day basis to be able to implement and execute commercial deals and review standard freight contracts and carry out ship operations of in in-house as well as external cargoes.

**Key roles and responsibilities**
- Ensure that Freight Operations fully comply with the company’s internal standards including compliance and Health, Safety, Security and Environment and general chartering terms
- Ensure that all obligations arising from the contracts and charter parties are carried out, and that any necessary requirements are complied with
- Deal with cargo and freight counter-parties and terminals on a regular basis regarding all pre
- and post-fixture activities ensuring all necessary operational information is passed on in good time and documentary requirements are met
- Promote good relationships with Ship owner/Masters to continuously monitor and improve operational efficiency over and above CP obligations
- Engage with the team and share information in order to improve general understanding of the trade and avoid unnecessary Ensure communication is optimised both internally and externally with correct information flow to aid trading decisions
- Review Fixture notes, Charter Party Agreements and contracts, optimise understanding and exploit clauses favouring JERA
- Support commercial colleagues on the workability of proposed contractual arrangements for new projects, new contracts and spot cargoes
- Identify and exploit synergies with other parts of company, building strong internal relationships
- Manage internal stakeholders g. Traders, Finance.
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders, counter-parties and service providers g. suppliers and customers, regulatory bodies, agents, inspectors and survey companies
- Ensure all operating vessels have been vetted and ensure compliance with internal Chartering Policy
- Close out the accounting for all costs, including claims and close voyages in system
- Efficiently manage the trade-offs between hire cost, bunker consumption, vessel speed and ensure optimal voyage planning for cost saving
- Promote Freight Operations as an important, valuable and dependable part of the business

**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Criteria**
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in commercial dry bulk operations
- Ability to operate ships independently / with mínimal supervision
- Preferably experience with both TC- and VC- operations
- Should confidently be able to handle 08-10 ships on average
- A self-starter; able to take on and proactively start new projects
- Team player
- Leadership abilities
- Required to liaise with counterparts from Japan, proficiency in English and Japanese is essential.
- Additional languages, experience with IMOS, experience with bunker purchasing will also be considered an advantage but not a requirement
