Senior Director, Global Communications, Dentsu Sports International
Company overview & role purpose
The Global Communications Sr. Director will lead DSI’s communication focusing initially on internal positioning and messaging to create a connected, informed organization, while maintaining a strong external brand position and narrative. The key goals of the role will be to:
- Create and refine a brand narrative that resonates internally and externally
- Drive internal culture through effective cadence communications
- Establish a compelling employer brand
- Position the organization and its executives as thought leaders and award winners in the industry
- Co-ordinate external communications with markets
**Responsibilities**:
- GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS LEADERSHIP: Communicate directly and regularly with the communication manager (or MD, where relevant) in each market to collate all awards submissions, press releases, thought leadership pieces, hosted event recaps, post-campaign reels and local sizzle reels, speaking engagement highlights and press coverage.
- CADENCE COMMUNICATIONS: Produce and distribute a regular communication featuring news from each market, HR updates, case studies, new business wins and campaign launches, press coverage, award wins, etc. Oversee and produce engaging employee communication events (town halls, virtual and hybrid events)
- BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION: Support the corporate services teams with key business announcements, such as IT, People & Culture, and Facilities. Work directly with CEO to determine thought leadership themes to push out to each market.
- CULTURE BUILDING: Work closely with DSI's Chief People Officer (CPO) to deliver Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) commitments to promote and engage employees in initiatives aligned with our DEI program. Work with CPO to plan and organise internal awards linked with the DSI core values to promote the DSI core values with the employees.
- GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY: Develop a global communication strategy and plan that can be rolled out to all markets and overseen by the Sr. Director.
Professional skills and experience
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the DSI President, CPO and broader Executive team
- First-hand understanding of and relationships with trade media that covers the sports business and marketing space.
- Corporate communications experience at a global level is plus
- A tertiary qualification in internal and external corporate communications, marketing, or a related discipline, and/or equivalent demonstrated experience in a related field
- Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience in employee and corporate communications, preferably within a corporate environment.
- Ability to influence internally at all levels.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to digest complex information into easily digestible messages for people at all levels of seniority.
- A knack for storytelling - a good understanding of what makes captivating and engaging content and how to extract and tell exciting stories.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, global environment with a positive can-do attitude.
- Ability to work autonomously to think and set a proactive calendar of activity.
- An understanding of complex, matrix-driven organisations. Preferably experience working in a corporate.
- Communications experience is necessary - preferably someone with specialist expertise in internal communications, or a communications generalist with a good understanding of writing for internal audiences.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills; strong verbal and written knowledge of Japanese and English a plus
- Well-developed influencing and negotiating skills
- Supporting the delivery of high-impact internal campaigns for big and small initiatives - a "no job is too small" attitude and approach
- Ability to seek out stories and the people that demonstrate our strategy in action
- Someone vibrant, passionate and proud of their work
- Someone who has great attention to detail
- Someone who can move quickly and produce great content, often with limited briefs and tight timelines.
