Senior/lead Backend Developer

**Role Summary**

This role is based in Singapore and requires on-site presence 2-3 days a week, collaborating closely with local teams. You will also need to be flexible with time zones, as the department operates globally, with occasional work in EST hours expected.

**Responsibilities**
- Develop and maintain high-performance backend services using Java (and optionally Kotlin)
- Design, build, and scale event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka
- Collaborate with cross-functional global teams across multiple time zones
- Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and architecture decisions
- Troubleshoot production issues and support existing systems as needed
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Adhere to security, compliance, and engineering standards

**Requirements and Skills**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 8 years of experience in backend development
- Strong proficiency in Java development; exposure to Kotlin is a plus
- Proven experience with Apache Kafka for messaging/event streaming
- Familiarity with modern software development practices (CI/CD, Git, Agile/Scrum)
- Experience working in hybrid teams and distributed environments
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and backend best practices
- Comfortable working in a global team and occasionally flexible with time zones

**Preferred Skills**
- Knowledge or experience in React (as frontend is React-based)
- Experience in the banking or financial services domain
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Understanding of containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with monitoring/logging tools and performance tuning
- Bonus: Exposure to BaaS, headless CMS, Elixir, or AI/ML concepts

**Work Arrangement**
- Location: Singapore (Hybrid - 2-3 days/week in office)
- Working Hours: Primarily local time, with occasional flexibility required for EST time zone collaboration
