About the team
The Mako Front Office Application Support team’s role is to manage the in-house
derivatives trading system. The Front Office Application Support Engineer will be an
addition to an expanding team who manage all development, maintenance and support
of Mako’s technical systems. The team works in a dynamic environment whilst providing
both 1st and 2nd level support to the trading floor, investigating issues, writing scripts
and implementing processes to improve the front office system.
About the role
As an Application Support Engineer at Mako, you will be responsible for maintaining and
improving Mako's proprietary trading platform:
- Ensure the smooth running of Mako’s production systems.
- Maintain and tune Mako’s trading system and hardware to obtain optimal
performance.
- Identify and report bugs in the system and take responsibility for the resolution
cycle.
- Investigate new/existing reported issues, attempting to understand and reproduce
them to diagnose and find acceptable solutions or workarounds.
- Provide L1 and L2 production support and technical support to the trading floor.
- Develop tools to automate the monitoring/analysis of system performance and
support tasks.
- Develop processes and tools to manage code deployment and testing.

- Previous experience in software development, DevOps or systems administration
is highly advantageous.
**Requirements**:
Coding ability (e.g. C++, Python, Matlab, Java, etc.)
- Minimum 2.1 (or equivalent) undergraduate degree in Computer Science,
Desired skillsExperience working in a Linux/Unix environment, e.g. common command line
tools, Bash scripting, etc.
- Experience in production support and troubleshooting/configuring Linux systems.
- Good knowledge of network protocols/concepts.
Grafana, etc.
- Both C++ and Python coding ability.
- Working knowledge of databases and SQL.
- Knowledge of derivatives products.
- Jira or other ticket management software.
