**Responsibilities
**Leadership and Management**:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the academic department, aligning its goals with the institution's overall mission and objectives.
- Plan, organize, and manage departmental activities, including curriculum development, course scheduling, and faculty assignments.
- Supervise and evaluate departmental faculty and staff, promoting professional development and ensuring high-quality teaching and research.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive departmental culture, promoting teamwork, open communication, and a positive working environment.
**Academic Program Oversight**:
- Develop and review academic programs and courses, ensuring their alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements.
- Monitor and assess programoutcomes and student learning to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with institutional goals.
- Stay abreast of emergingtrends and developments in the field, integrating them into the curriculum to ensure its relevance and currency.
1. Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the departmental budget, making strategic decisions to optimize resource allocation and maximize efficiency.
- Identify and pursue external funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships to support departmental initiatives and enhance resources.
- Ensure proper utilization of departmental resources, facilities, and equipment, promoting their maintenance and upgrade as required.
**Faculty and Staff Development**:
- Recruit, hire, and retain highly qualified faculty and staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels to meet program and course demands.
- Provide mentoring, guidance, and support to faculty and staff, promoting their professional growth and development.
- Foster a culture of excellence in teaching, research, and service, encouraging faculty and staff to engage in scholarly activities and pursue professional advancement.
1. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with other departments, academic units, and stakeholders within the institution to promote interdisciplinary initiatives, joint research, and shared resources.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, industry professionals, and community organizations to enhance collaboration and promote opportunities for students and faculty.
- Represent the department at meetings, conferences, and events, advocating for its interests and promoting its achievements.
**Academic Department Head Required Skills**
1. Leadership and Management: Proven ability to provide effective leadership, manage teams, and foster a positive work environment.
2. Strategic Planning and Decision-Making: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop and execute strategic plans and make informed decisions.
3. Curriculum Development: Knowledge and experience in developing and reviewing curricula to ensure alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements.
4. Budget and Resource Management: Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, allocate resources effectively, and seek external funding opportunities.
5. Communication and Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders, engage faculty, and represent the department effectively.
6. Academic Program Evaluation: Ability to assess program outcomes, student learning, and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
7. Faculty Development: Experience in mentoring and supporting faculty in their professional growth, promoting excellence in teaching, research, and service.
**Requirements**:
1. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education, with a significant portion in academic leadership or management roles.
3. Demonstrated expertise and contributions in the field of the academic department.
4. Strong teaching and Public speaking skill
5. Strong understanding of accreditation standards and processes.
6. Experience in budget management and resource allocation.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8. Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
9. Strong organizational and time management skills.
10. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in higher education.
11. Willing to Travel frequently
12. Must be able to work on weekends and weekday evenings
