Position Summary:
The Director, Issues Management will report to the Senior Director, Issues Management, and focus on enhancing and protecting the Company’s reputation through issues management, with primary responsibility in APAC. The Director will serve as the point person in APAC for Company leaders in the media relations, government affairs, and law departments; sectors; external advisors and other communication leaders across Johnson & Johnson for issues management. The Director will develop plans and coordinate actions to ensure the Company’s positions are clearly understood by the media and other stakeholders in the region. The position requires extensive experience in communicating to the media and stakeholders related to issues. The role will partner with and will provide guidance to communicators in the businesses on how to communicate and manage issues responsibly and appropriately. Additionally, the Director, will be responsible for hiring, developing, and managing one direct report in the region dedicated to issues management.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead, oversee and set strategy for J&J’s positioning and messaging to defend the reputation in APAC
- Serve as a key contributor to the global issues management team
- Partner closely with sectors in the region to support their business goals and serve patient needs
- Serve as advisor to the Senior Director and manage all regional issues management activities
- Ability to work with consultants as appropriate to support strategy development, statement development and media outreach
- Provide tactical leadership in response to issues-related media coverage of the company
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to leadership that inspires commitment and high performance
- Demonstrate an ability to lead action internally without direct authority
- Build trusted relationships and collaborate across diverse, multi-functional teams to successfully drive objectives
- Drive Johnson & Johnson’s reputation of excellence, innovation & ingenuity globally
- Able to define the best media relations analytics and optimal reporting methods for tracking coverage and interpreting results to better inform strategies
- Have a strong commitment and track record of talent identification, development and advancement

**Qualifications**:

- 8 - 12 years of issues and/or litigation communications experience, reflecting a strong record of success and accomplishment, with a well-respected advisory firm, large corporation or government agency.
- Proven record of excellence in counseling and advising senior management and business leaders on complex business issues required
- Demonstrated ability to delegate, prioritize and focus the organization on the most critical issues/projects to consistently deliver results
- An independent, self-directed, and strategic thinker with strong analytical skills who is both collaborative, decisive and who demonstrates sound judgment and ability to hold sensitive information in confidence
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to project and inspire confidence
- Exhibits leadership, executive presence or adversarial strength as required by the circumstances
- Strong ability to develop appropriate messaging and statements related to our litigations in order to ensure fair and accurate representations of our views in the media’s coverage
- Strong writer and critical thinker
- Team player who is able to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
- Coach who mentors and develops skills in the team and is capable of managing the cadence of work that is distributed and completed with resources at hand
