Tile Layer - Job Description

At our organization, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Tile Layer to join our team.

Job Overview

The Tile Layer will be responsible for preparing surfaces, cutting and shaping tiles, creating tile beds, laying and grouting tiles, installing tiles, polishing and surfacing granite and marble, and creating decorative wall and floor designs by laying and setting mosaic tiles. The successful candidate must have excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing Surfaces: Clean, level, and waterproof surfaces, and remove old grout and cement.
  • Cutting and Shaping Tiles: Use hand and power tools to cut tiles to fit around obstacles and into tight spaces.
  • Creating Tile Beds: Use tools like screeds, brushes, and trowels to form tile beds using concrete, plaster, cement, glue, or mortar.
  • Laying and Grouting Tiles: Lay and grout tiles evenly and cleanly.
  • Installing Tiles: Tap tiles into place using tools to adhere them to the base.
  • Polishing and Surfacing: Polish and surface granite and marble.
  • Creating Designs: Create decorative wall and floor designs by laying and setting mosaic tiles.
  • Working with Other Tradespeople: Work with other tradespeople and consult with project managers and clients.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and circuitry.
  • Proficiency in operating various power tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
