Principal Scientist / Senior Principal Scientist – Program Lead for Accelerated Materials Innovation (IMRE)Join A*STAR – Agency for Science, Technology and Research as a leading visionary to drive high‐throughput, AI‐driven experimental platforms for accelerated materials innovation. IMRE is seeking a technical leader with a proven track record in building and deploying automated experimental platforms across multiple materials classes. This role will establish an ecosystem‐level initiative for materials innovation, foster industry adoption, and propel Singapore to the forefront of materials innovation. The Challenge & The Vision Accelerate the development of new materials for sustainability, clean energy, advanced manufacturing and other critical technologies. Turn AI and automation into a scientific frontier compressing decades of progress into months. Key Responsibilities Platform Leadership : Spearhead design, development, and implementation of automated experimental platforms for synthesis, characterization, and testing. Accelerated Discovery : Integrate AI, machine learning, and computational materials science with experimental workflows to accelerate discovery and optimization of novel materials across diverse classes. Industry Adoption & Impact : Cultivate partnerships with industry leaders to ensure successful adoption and commercialization of new materials and automated discovery platforms. Team & Capability Building : Recruit, mentor, and lead a high‐performing team of scientists and engineers. Ecosystem Development : Build and expand a national‐level ecosystem for automated materials development, collaborating with universities, research institutes, and government agencies. Strategic Direction : Contribute to IMRE's strategic roadmap, identify emerging trends, and shape future research priorities. Qualifications & Experience Education & Leadership : Ph.D. in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline and substantial leadership experience in academia, research institution, or industry. Platform Builder : Proven track record of building, deploying, and managing automated experimental platforms for materials research. Industry Acumen : Experience driving industry adoption of new materials or technological platforms and understanding of commercialization pathways & IP management. Multi‐Material Expertise : Experience with a wide range of materials classes and experimental techniques. AI/ML Integration : Practical experience integrating AI, machine learning, and data science into experimental workflows for accelerated discovery. Collaboration Champion : Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to foster national and international collaborations.
