What the role is:
HTX (Home Team Science & Technology Agency) is the world’s first Science and Technology agency that integrates a diverse range of scientific and engineering capabilities to innovate and deliver transformative and operationally-ready solutions for homeland security. As a statutory board of the Ministry of Home Affairs and integral to the Home Team, HTX works at the forefront of science and technology to empower Singapore’s frontline of security. The Head of AI Engineering is a technical manager responsible for overseeing the development of AI technologies to meet business needs. While this is a technical role, it also involves managing a team of AI Engineers and Computer Scientists. Therefore, the individual must possess strong technical expertise and have significant experience in AI engineering. In addition, the role requires setting the development direction for AI technologies in alignment with the strategic goals established by the Deputy Director (Engineering) and the Director of the COE. The individual must also consider the business implications of AI solutions, lead discussions with external partners (both commercial and non-commercial), and effectively communicate the value of various AI techniques in simple terms to non-technical stakeholders.
What you will be working on:
Oversee the design, development, and deployment of software stack and AI models for S&S COE.
Define, implement and continuously improve AI and Software engineering processes within the team to ensure reliability, and maintainability of released AI models.
Collaborate with stakeholders, such as the engagement managers, product managers and end-users to define and implement AI services that meet their business needs.
Identify and resolve technical issues and strive to keep the team’s technical debt as low as possible.
Manage the AI Engineering team’s resources and work performance and to match individual aspiration with stakeholders’ requirements.
Stay up to date with the latest Software and AI technologies, trends and best practices.
Foster a culture of learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement in the AI Engineering team.
What we are looking for:
Tertiary education of Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
At least 10 years of relevant professional work experience in software and system engineering with 3 years of hands-on experience in AI model development with Python using frameworks such as OpenCV, Tensorflow or Torch.
At least 3 years of experience in designing, developing, deploying, and monitoring machine learning and Deep Learning solutions using Docker, Kubernetes or Kubeflow.
At least 3 years of experience working in Cloud environment (AWS or Azure). Experience with Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) environment will be strongly preferred.
Good experience in Bash and PowerShell Scripting on Linux Operating system.
A proven track record of people management and being able to develop individuals’ careers and motivation to achieve team’s outcomes.
Having domain knowledge in Homeland Security sector will be an added bonus.
*** All new hires are appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance and will be assessed and considered for permanent tenure over time, based on performance.
