About the Role:

The Cancer Support Specialist will provide comprehensive support to individuals affected by cancer, focusing on their psychosocial and emotional well-being. This vital role contributes significantly to patients' overall quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer individualized support and assistance tailored to each client's needs, encompassing newly diagnosed, treatment, palliative/end-of-life, and survivorship stages
  • Provide psycho-social and emotional support for clients and their caregivers
  • Connect clients with relevant resources and services, such as financial aid, food assistance, transportation, mobility equipment, and medical supplies
  • Foster continuity of care through follow-ups with community partners after referrals
  • Refer clients for counseling, spiritual, or mental health support when needed
  • Coordinate information sessions or facilitate access to psychoeducation from healthcare professionals, enhancing clients' understanding of their diagnosis, treatments, and side effects
  • Maintain regular communication with clients and caregivers to assess their coping mechanisms during their cancer journey
  • Advocate for the needs of cancer patients and raise awareness through community programs and campaigns
  • Document case recordings according to interventions provided for each client
  • Organize and lead support group sessions
  • Perform assigned administrative or coordinating tasks

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Counseling, Psychology
  • Experience in case management and supporting individuals impacted by illnesses or multiple adversities
  • Skills in demonstrating empathy and warmth towards individuals facing challenges
  • Interest in providing support for low-income families and individuals
  • Willingsness to work with diverse age groups (children, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults, older adults)

Additional Requirements:

  • Able to coordinate logistics for in-house and external programs
  • Willingness to work weekends as required by supervisor (for outings, support groups, outreach programs)
  • Ability to travel for home visits
