Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel

At Singtel, we are committed to fostering a work environment that empowers every generation. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our Shared Services Legal Team based in KL, Malaysia.

About the Role:

This role provides on-the-ground oversight, training, and management of the contract managers in our Shared Services Legal Team. You will work closely with the Assistant General Counsel (Shared Services) to ensure effective legal support is provided to our business units across the Asia Pacific region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Assistant General Counsel (Shared Services) in the overall oversight, training, and management of our Shared Services Legal Team.
  • Provide on-the-ground oversight of the Shared Services Legal team to ensure robust management of the team.
  • Monitor and review matter trackers maintained by each member of the Shared Services Legal team, in collaboration with the relevant Assistant General Counsels based in Singapore.
  • Provide feedback on the performance of the Shared Services Legal team to the relevant Assistant General Counsels based in Singapore, and assist with the planning of career development and continuous improvement of the team.
  • Organize and provide relevant legal trainings to the Shared Services Legal team through in-house training or external training by law firms.
  • Support allocated Business Units in Singapore and across the Asia Pacific region with timely quality legal work in a fast-paced and dynamic working environment.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, including sales and procurement contracts, and IT contracts.
  • Provide accurate and prompt legal advice to allocated Business Units, acting always in a proactive, commercial, and pragmatic manner.
  • Manage time effectively and efficiently to cope with competing deadlines from different business stakeholders.
  • Delegate day-to-day work to the relevant members in the Shared Services Legal team who are assigned to the same allocated Business Units, oversee their work, and provide legal guidance to team members in the performance of their tasks.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a university in Singapore, UK, or Australia.
  • Called to the bar in Singapore, Malaysia, UK, or Australia.
  • Minimum 10 years of post-graduate qualifying experience, with 3-5 years of experience in a good law firm, and general commercial corporate experience.
  • Strong commercial, corporate experience.
  • Excellent technical skills in drafting and vetting a wide variety of legal contracts.
  • Reasonable knowledge of IT laws, privacy, and competition law, intellectual property, and litigation matters.
  • A track record of steady career progression and demonstrating leadership qualities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to interact and work across functions and levels.
  • Excellent communication, writing, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • A team player and strong work ethic.
  • Able to work independently and effectively under pressure/tight deadlines.
  • Meticulous, quick to learn, detailed, ability to work with many parties in the Singtel Group.
  • Curious, willing to put in effort into working and learning about our business.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to Singapore for work.
