About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Customs & Excise Specialist to join our team at Shell. As a key member of our Trading & Supply department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with customs and excise regulations, managing import/export operations, and providing expert advice on trade compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customs and Excise Compliance: Implement and manage Shell Trading customs policies and processes based on best practices and frameworks, ensuring compliance with European customs laws and regulations, as well as international customs legislations (WCO & WTO).
  • Import/Export Operations: Manage import/export operations within East region, including cooperation with customs brokers/agents and terminal, oversight of customs authorities' requirements, and customs documentation needed to support Shell Trading flow of goods.
  • Trade Compliance Support: Provide import/export compliance support to operations teams, including building internal compliance documentation guidelines, training resources, and ensuring import trade flows are set up and operations are compliant.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Keep up to date with customs and excise regulatory changes and best practice, identifying risks and opportunities and recommending actions.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with IT team to enhance Customs & Excise aspects within the Shell's IT environment/ERP system and trading platforms, and communicate complex subject matter clearly and simply to stakeholders.
  • Leadership and Problem-Solving: Demonstrate strong leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, and conflict management skills, with the ability to build a shared vision across multiple functions and motivate and coach a breadth of staff to deliver against it.
Requirements
  • Experience: Approximately 5 years working experience in customs and excise matters in industry, with expertise in energy or commodity trading an advantage.
  • Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of European customs laws and regulations, as well as international customs legislations (WCO & WTO), and experience in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact at all levels in the business, including very senior levels, and experience in design or rollout of a control system.
