Job Description:

As a Mechanical Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in accurately interpreting engineering documentation, including drawings/specifications/scope of works. Your primary responsibility will be to review tender documents/requests for proposals to comprehend project details and requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting engineering documentation to fully understand the project requirements for accurate estimating.
  • Providing detailed quantity and component take-offs against technical drawings, specifications, and scope of work documentation.
  • Ensuring timely clarifications for ongoing submissions within the tender/RFP duration.
  • Maintaining bid project information flow and documenting accordingly.
  • Communicating and negotiating competitive rates with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Contributes costing data to proposal formats required by the tender documentation.
  • Collates and checks tender bids against estimates for accuracy and completeness.
  • Works within the estimating team, reporting to the estimating manager or project manager.
  • Collaborates with other discipline estimators and engineers.
  • Senior positions mentor junior estimators/team members.
  • Maintains company pricing databases.
  • Supports other team members in estimating and tendering.
  • Coordinates between disciplines to close estimating scope gaps.
  • Adheres to corporate policies and guidelines.


Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline/equivalent qualification.
  • 3-5 years of mechanical cost estimating experience.
  • Experience in senior positions may be considered for additional qualifications.
  • Prior construction industry experience is essential.
  • Prior industrial projects cost estimating experience is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Proficient in supporting medium to large-scale projects.
  • Experienced in preparing, coordinating, and consolidating all estimating activities.
  • First-principle pricing is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Cost planning expertise is necessary.
  • Experience in estimating mechanical works, such as building services, ACMV, fire protection, plumbing, and utilities.
  • Advanced technology facilities and bio-life science industries are advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills for various stakeholders.
