Key Responsibilities

The Histotechnologist oversees the technical accuracy of the histology laboratory, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

A Histotechnologist organizes and prioritizes a large daily workload, accommodating priority requests and maintaining focus on immediate tasks.

Tissue specimens are processed for microscopic examination and diagnosis using appropriate methods for fixing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting.

Pathologists consult regarding difficult analysis or abnormal findings.

Open communication is maintained with supervisors, pathologists, and colleagues to ensure optimal department operation.

Instrument preventative maintenance is provided and recorded.

Immunohistochemical testing and related procedures, including Immunofluorescence and Immunoperoxidase procedures, are performed.

Patient information and accession numbers are ensured to be accurate.

Cleaning laboratory glass and plastic ware as needed adheres to defined cleaning procedures.

Discrepancies or omissions in patient/clinical information are resolved.

Requirements
  • Degree in Biomedical Science with a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience or equivalent.
  • Experience in histology is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in staining and photographic techniques for specimens.
  • Team player with good working and learning attitude, interpersonal, and communication skills.
