Job Title: Histology Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Histology Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine histological tests in the Department of Pathology, using their expertise to assist pathologists during trimming and evaluation of specimens.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Biological / Life Sciences/ Biomedical Science or equivalent, and relevant experience in a Histology laboratory. They should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to function effectively as a member of a team.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Performing reception of laboratory specimens, assigning charge codes, and rejecting those that are unacceptable according to rejection criteria.
  • Assisting pathologists during trimming and evaluation of specimens.
  • Performing various technical functions, including processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and complex staining, mounting, and labeling of prepared slides and block checks.
  • Grossing simple and uncomplicated specimens.
  • Performing frozen cryo-sectioning.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring proper maintenance of equipment, performing simple troubleshooting in the event of malfunction, and providing technical guidance to laboratory personnel. Additionally, they will be required to conduct training for new personnel in laboratory procedures, prepare and maintain all necessary reagents and stains according to proper specifications, and comply with good laboratory practices on all procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols and SOPs.
