Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Associate Librarian to join our team at ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute. As a key member of our library staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the Senior Librarian of Reference & User Services in managing daily customer operations, maintaining library facilities and services, and overseeing circulation and information services.

Responsibilities:

  • Circulation and Information Services: Oversee and manage the library's circulation and information services, including monitoring service delivery by staff, roster planning, manning of circulation counter, processing of loan and membership transactions, handling advisory/information enquiries, and troubleshooting issues related to common library equipment/services.
  • User Data Management: Manage and maintain user data in the Library Management System and keep up-to-date relevant SOPs and documentation for library services.
  • Reference and Research Services: Identify gaps, propose/experiment with possible solutions & methods to improve or provide new reference & research services (on-site & remote) to users.
  • Report Analysis: Collect, analyse and produce regular written and statistical reports on the library collection, facilities & services for management, analysing satisfaction/usage trends to ensure the library collection, resources and policies meet users' needs.
  • Collection Development: Participate in collection development through regular selection of materials for acquisition and provide information service to users via daily selection and/or co-ordination of news alert services.
  • Promotion and Outreach: Promote library collection and services through curated book displays, subject guides, tours and events, developing training kit/handbook/materials and conducting staff and public user education/induction.
  • Library Space Management: Be the central contact point for coordinating and managing the usage of library public space e.g. exhibition galleries, meeting rooms.
  • Collection Maintenance: Assist in collection management and maintenance through shelf reading, collection stocktake, conservation and provision of timely access to materials.

Requirements:

  • Experience: At least three years of relevant library work experience, particularly in academic or special library environments.
  • Skillset: Strong customer service and communication skills, meticulous, organised, and independent self-starter who possess critical thinking skills.
  • Teamwork: Team player willing to co-operate and share, possessing good interpersonal, administrative and supervisory skills.
  • Time Management: Willing to learn, able to multi-task and complete tasks with tight deadlines independently, possessing good time management.
  • Linguistic Skills: Good writing skills in English with a good knowledge of any other Southeast Asian languages would be an advantage.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint, familiarity with graphic design software and tools.
  • Qualifications: A basic degree, those with qualifications in degree in social sciences – History, Southeast Asian/Asian Studies, Information Studies, Library Science related disciplines, or equivalent qualifications would be advantageous.

Salary: Estimated SGD 50,000 - 60,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
