Sign Language Interpreter Job Summary

This position is for an experienced Sign Language Interpreter to work with the deaf community and provide access to communication. The role involves performing spoken English to Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) and SgSL to spoken English interpretation duties in various settings and locations.

The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and competent in Singapore Sign Language (SgSL), comfortable working with people of all ages and backgrounds, and have a strong desire to continuously learn and develop.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform spoken English to SgSL and SgSL to spoken English interpretation duties in a variety of settings and locations
  2. Deliver sign language interpretation in a professional and ethical manner
  3. Consistently undertake professional training and development
  4. Guide Community Sign Language interpreters as needed
  5. Develop and maintain resources such as training materials
  6. Support the organisation's events and activities
Requirements:
  1. Fluency in English and competence in Singapore Sign Language (SgSL)
  2. Comfortable working with people of all ages and backgrounds
  3. Strong desire to continuously learn and develop
  4. Good mental and physical stamina
  5. Ability to deal with ambiguity while maintaining a strong sense of ethics
  6. Ability to work independently with little supervision and be adaptable to changing work and environmental conditions
  7. Ability to work on shifts, including weekends, nights and public holidays as needed
  8. Proficiency in working with digital tools, especially Google Workspace
  9. Recognised diploma or degree in any field
