Senior Commodity Manager Job Description

The role of Senior Commodity Manager involves developing and executing strategic sourcing strategies for raw materials and components to ensure cost-effective procurement, supplier performance, and risk mitigation while supporting the company's production and sustainability goals.

  • Developing sourcing strategies for plastic commodities (e.g., resins, additives, packaging materials) aligned with business objectives.
  • Identifying, evaluating, and managing suppliers to ensure quality, cost, delivery, and compliance standards are met. Leading supplier negotiations and contract management.
  • Monitoring global market trends, price fluctuations, and supply chain risks in the plastics industry. Providing insights and forecasts to internal stakeholders.
  • Driving cost reduction initiatives through value engineering, alternative sourcing, and long-term supplier partnerships.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and finance teams to align procurement strategies with product development and operational needs.
  • Ensuring sourcing practices comply with environmental regulations and support the company's sustainability goals, including recycled and bio-based plastics.
  • Analyzing spend data, supplier performance metrics, and market indices. Preparing regular reports and presentations for senior management.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in commodity management or strategic sourcing, preferably in the plastics or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Deep understanding of plastic materials, global supply markets, and sustainability trends.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Epicor) and procurement tools.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
