Job Overview:

A Hand Rehabilitation Therapist specializes in evaluating and treating conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and upper extremity. They help individuals recover from injuries, surgeries, or conditions that impact their ability to perform daily tasks requiring hand function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate hand function, strength, range of motion, dexterity, and coordination to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop personalized rehabilitation programs for patients with conditions like fractures, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendon injuries, or nerve damage.
  • Implement therapeutic exercises to improve mobility, strength, and flexibility, and provide manual therapy, stretching, and joint mobilization techniques.
  • Use modalities like heat, cold, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation for pain management, and design and fabricate custom splints or orthotics for stabilization and support.

Patient Education & Rehabilitation Support:

  • Educate patients on self-care techniques, hand protection, and joint conservation strategies to promote independence and prevent strain and reinjury.
  • Provide training for modified work techniques and workstation adjustments, and guide patients through home exercise programs to maintain progress.
