Job Description

As a key member of our research team, you will have the opportunity to develop applied research skills relevant to industry demands while working on projects. We work closely with industry in our research pursuits, equipping our staff with essential skills for success.

The primary responsibility of this role is to contribute to a research project focused on yeast and fungi development for food ingredient and biochemical production. Key goals include:

  • Metabolic engineering of Yarrowia and Candida yeasts for organic acid production
  • Design and optimization of fermentation methods in stirred tank vessels

Key Responsibilities

  • ">
  • Deliver structured presentations of research plans and findings every two weeks
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior researchers and undergraduate students
  • Work collaboratively with the team to prepare scientific manuscripts for reporting and potential publication
  • Prepare write-ups for new research grant applications
  • Support undergraduate lab classes by integrating applied research outcomes into teaching
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and ensure adherence to work, safety, and health regulations
  • Coordinate procurement activities with licensed vendors

Requirements

  • ">
  • PhD degree in Biochemistry or Biochemical Engineering
  • At least one year of experience with metabolic engineering of Yarrowia and Candida yeasts
  • Gene expression and deletion experience desired
  • Bioreactor, HPLC-MS, and GC-MS expertise required
  • Prior experience in genetic manipulation of filamentous fungi cell line engineering advantageous
