Gaia Foods is on an exciting path of growth and is looking for a Research Scientist (Media Development) who will work on optimizing culture media for the growth and differentiation of mammalian stem cells.
**Position**:
- Full-time.
- Singapore
**Required background**:
- Ph.D. in Biology/Biotechnology/Life Sciences or related field with more than 3-4 years of cell culture and/or media development experience.
**Preferred Experience**:
- Hands-on experience in culture media and platform optimization are preferred.
- Experience in handing primary cells, stem cells and/or iPSC.
- Have a strong understanding of statistical analysis and design of experiments (DOE), multivariant analysis and other statistical methods to improve media optimization protocols.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Design protocols to identify media formulations using the high throughput live cell imaging system and optimize for the growth and differentiation of stem cells.
- Screen a variety of cell culture media for cell growth and differentiation.
- Formulation of food-grade animal-free, ideally plant-based, cell culture media.
- Sourcing of food-grade, serum-free and animal-free ingredients for cell culture media.
- Manage media/platform optimization, buffer chemistry, filtration processes and biochemical analytical techniques. Maintain cells in culture including routine media exchange, harvest, and sampling.
- Perform basic to moderate biomolecular work.
- Identify external vendors and resources where appropriate and oversee cross-functional projects required to accomplish project goals.
- Maintain rigorous documentation of experimental procedures and data.
- Communicate results and data in a timely and effective manner.
- Provide guidance to junior scientists or associates.
- Take care of culturing cells at least one of the days during weekends or long holidays (time can be compensated).

- Have strong communication skills including verbal, written, and scientific data presentation to a variety of audiences.
- Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture.

- Innovative, flexible and willing to perform explorative experiments.
- Work independently, as well as in a team demonstrating leadership qualities when required.
- Careful and meticulous in planning, performing experiments, data analysis and documentation.
