Job Overview

The Assistant Sourcing Manager role is responsible for managing a merchandise category and supporting senior management across multiple categories. This position anticipates potential production issues, develops breakthrough ideas and processes to mitigate risk, supports short and long-term sourcing strategies, drives factory relationships, conducts initial cost negotiations, manages production follow up, and is accountable for all strategic details and decisions of managed categories.

Responsibilities:
  • Drive measurable efficiencies in team communications, tasks, and workflow to support continuous improvement.
  • Assist management in growing global and segment-wide relationships.
  • Support manager in executing short and long-term sourcing strategies for managed categories, drive priorities, objectives, and action plans to improve the supply base and mitigate risk with measurable accountability.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure products meet Disney quality standards.
  • Drive product development management, communicating key milestones and deadlines within the sample approval process.
  • Proactively track, communicate, and troubleshoot production exceptions and delays.
  • Negotiate costing and propose value engineering options to achieve profitability goals while ensuring product vision is achieved.
  • Collaborate with factory and Product Design to bring new art techniques and applications and research trends.
  • Support manager in monitoring suppliers to ensure they continue to meet established performance requirements.
Requirements:
  • 5 years of experience in Global Sourcing and/or Merchandising.
  • Strong knowledge of product-specific construction standards, materials, and manufacturing processes/techniques.
  • Outstanding negotiation skills.
  • Able to balance conflicting priorities between creative design and cost of goods objectives.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Proficiency in Japanese, Mandarin or Cantonese is beneficial (spoken and written) - to communicate with suppliers in other markets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and strategy-formulation skills.
  • Able to influence internal stakeholders and drive efficient decision-making.
  • Experience in merchandise sourcing and production management.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Micro Charts).
  • Able to work on multiple projects within specified time frames.
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Understanding of US and global testing, safety, and labeling requirements and impact to product design and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of free-trade agreements, duties and resulting impact of sourcing strategies.
