Water-Based Fire Systems Maintenance Specialist

Job Overview

Support the National Science Foundation managed United States Antarctic Program as a Fire Systems Technician – Water Based. This seasonal contract position will perform maintenance and installation tasking under supervision.

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and perform scheduled preventative maintenance on various water-based fire suppression systems.">
• Collaborate with other technicians to develop and execute work plans for fire alarm systems, special hazard systems, and water-based suppression systems.">
• Work with Facilities Management and Engineers to develop work plans and schedules, and identify materials needed for tasking.">
• Perform Winterization and De-winterization of Water Based fire suppression systems, and periodic maintenance on fire systems equipment according to Preventative Maintenance Program, NFPA standards, and manufacturer's guidelines.">
• Prepare and document work plans, job hazard analysis, job safety analysis, code required forms, checklists, and internal procedural documents.">
• Timely response to emergency service calls during and outside of normal working hours, maintaining accurate documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involved.">
• Coordinate testing, maintenance, and repair activities with other parties, and utilize assistance from other station personnel as necessary.">
• Utilize solid decision-making ability and sound judgment to safely and effectively solve problems, performing ongoing risk and hazard assessment while executing tasking.">
• Proactively identify any unsafe conditions or hazards and communicate them effectively, working directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking.">
• Perform tasking outdoors in environmentally challenging conditions, advising immediate Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements.">
• Learns and uses computer-based labor, material, and maintenance tracking applications, reviewing and following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and suggesting revisions as needed.">
• Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, participating in Work Center Safety Program and ASC safety objectives.">

• High School diploma or GED, Current NICET II Water Based certification, and minimum four years documented experience installing, testing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining fire protection systems.">
• Experience in repair, maintenance and inspection on a variety of equipment and application types, developing written work plans, job hazard analysis, and job safety analysis related to work activities under a permit to work system.">
• Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, diagrams, maintenance manual and manufacturer's troubleshooting guides, possessing prior computer experience and willingness to learn and utilize computer-based labor, inventory, and maintenance tracking applications.">
• Competent to diagnose fire safety system issues, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, and skilled in utilizing design drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams to accomplish tasking.">
• Proficient in LOTO procedures, confined space safety protocols, risk assessment, and PPE appropriate to specific tasking, knowledgeable of limits of PPE and proper maintenance of PPE, familiar with fall protection and respirator use.">
• Hands on experience analyzing situations and making technical and safety decisions based on specifications and applicable codes and manufacturer guidelines, working knowledge of current building, fire and life safety codes as related to fire protection.">
• Valid Driver's License issued in the United States, ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.">
