Sustainability Professional Job Description

This role plays a pivotal part in driving the organization's ESG strategy forward. The Sustainability Specialist is responsible for integrating climate and biodiversity risk assessments, executing decarbonization targets, and publishing ESG disclosures aligned with global frameworks.

• Key Responsibilities:
• Provide sustainability expertise and guidance to support the implementation of the organization's ESG strategy
• Stay up-to-date with emerging ESG trends, regulations, and best practices, providing strategic recommendations to leadership

ESG Strategy Execution

The Sustainability Specialist will identify and assess ESG-related risks and opportunities across the organization and its business units. This includes supporting the development of mitigation and adaptation plans to address identified ESG risks, conducting climate-related risk and opportunity assessments in line with TCFD recommendations, evaluating biodiversity-related risks, and incorporating nature-based considerations into sustainability planning.

Policy and Governance

The Sustainability Specialist will lead the development and periodic review of ESG-related policies, standards, and frameworks. This includes ensuring alignment with local regulatory requirements and international ESG standards (e.g. GRI, ISSB, CSRD).

ESG Integration in Investment Processes

The Sustainability Specialist will identify processes and decision-making tools to incorporate ESG considerations into investment evaluations. This includes preparing business cases and feasibility studies for select ESG initiatives and investment proposals.

Decarbonisation Planning and Carbon Management

The Sustainability Specialist will lead carbon footprint assessments across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 (GHG emissions from direct, indirect, and value chain sources). This includes developing and executing decarbonization strategies aligned with national and international targets, monitoring and reporting on emissions reduction progress and sustainability-linked KPIs.

Data Management and Analytics

The Sustainability Specialist will manage and oversee the collection, validation, and reporting of ESG data across the organization. This includes leading the implementation and enhancement of a centralized ESG data management system.

ESG Reporting and Disclosure

The Sustainability Specialist will lead the publication of organization-level ESG/sustainability reports aligned to global standards. This includes benchmarking ESG performance against global and regional peers, recommending improvements to maintain leadership positioning, coordinating with internal teams and external providers to ensure timely, accurate, and assured reporting, managing GRESB submissions and other ESG disclosures.

• Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the publication of organization-level ESG/sustainability reports aligned to global standards
• Benchmark ESG performance against global and regional peers, and recommend improvements to maintain leadership positioning
• Coordinate with internal teams and external providers to ensure timely, accurate, and assured reporting
• Manage GRESB submissions and other ESG disclosures

External Assurance

The Sustainability Specialist will lead third-party assurance processes to ensure the credibility and accuracy of ESG disclosures. This includes coordinating audit and verification exercises related to sustainability data.

Stakeholder Engagement

The Sustainability Specialist will collaborate with senior management, business units, and support functions to embed ESG into operations. This includes leading ESG awareness sessions, training, and advisory projects for internal teams and business units, representing the organization in industry forums, regulatory consultations, and ESG-related engagements, engaging with external stakeholders, including investors, regulators, industry bodies, and NGOs to promote sustainability practices.

• Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with senior management, business units, and support functions to embed ESG into operations

• Represent the organization in industry forums, regulatory consultations, and ESG-related engagements

Capability Building

The Sustainability Specialist will provide coaching and support to team members within the sustainability function and across business units. This includes spearheading employee engagement programmes and sustainability awareness initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Business, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 6-8 years of experience in sustainability or ESG-related roles, preferably in a corporate or consulting environment.
• Proven track record in ESG reporting and strategy implementation.
• Experience with ESG data platforms, assurance processes, and global sustainability standards.
• Hands-on exposure to Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MSc/MA/MBA in a relevant field.
• Professional certifications such as CEMS, GRI, or ISO 14001.
• Strong understanding of ESG trends, regulations, and best practices.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
