
Vessel Operations Manager

We are seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to join our team. As a key member of the operations department, you will be responsible for ensuring that vessels under your care operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with international maritime regulations and environmental standards.
- You will manage day-to-day vessel operations in line with industry best practices, providing guidance to Masters, Chief Engineers, and onboard teams on various aspects of vessel operations.
- Monitor the onboard maintenance system, address overdue items, and ensure timely action to prevent delays and costs associated with downtime.
- Review vessel reports, act on findings, and communicate with stakeholders to ensure that all necessary actions are taken.
- You will also track vessel certification status, arrange statutory and class surveys, and liaise with Principals to maintain safe and efficient operations.
- In addition, you will conduct regular vessel visits, prepare visit reports, and compile executive summaries after each visit.
- Record inspection and audit reports, follow up on closing deficiencies, and prepare periodic management reports.
- You will support and coordinate Oil Major vetting inspections, arrange external safety audits, and onboard training sessions.
- Ensure timely closure of audit and inspection findings, participate in emergency response teams, and investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses.
- Review corrective and preventive measures from investigations, take part in emergency drills, and tabletop exercises.
- Assist with planning and follow-up for Flag State Inspections and ISM/ISPS/MLC audits, support vessels during Port State Inspections, and monitor timely resolution of deficiencies.
- You will review, approve, and submit corrective action plans and reports to authorities, assist vessels in conducting risk assessments, and record and review off-hire periods.
- Maintain strict cost control of vessel operating budgets, review and approve monthly financial reports, and consolidate vessel and departmental data for annual budgets.
- You will monitor vessel requisitions, ensuring timely submission and delivery in coordination with Purchasing, and approve invoices for payment.
- Provide technical and cost input for insurance claims, conduct performance appraisals of Masters and Chief Engineers, and advise Manning Department on recruitment of senior officers.
- Plan, manage, and oversee vessel dry dockings, repairs, and conversions within agreed parameters.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Class 1 Certificate of Competency or equivalent qualification.
- At least 8 months' experience as Chief Engineer or Master on relevant vessel types, or strong technical candidates without prior shore-based experience may also be considered.
