Postdoctoral Research Position in Heat Exposure and Sleep

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to join our team at BEARS, a UC Berkeley center for research, graduate education, and innovation in Singapore.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Stefano Schiavon and in collaboration with Jason Lee, June Lo, Clayton Miller, Thomas Parkinson, and Hui Zhang. The position is focused on data analysis and paper writing of collected data related to the effect of heat exposure on sleep and air conditioning control logic to improve sleep quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the assessment of air conditioning control logic development and implement it in real buildings.
  • Support running experiments, processing, and analyzing data.
  • Lead the development and writing of research publications and related patents.
  • Prepare and share research findings with various stakeholders.
  • Assist with other duties similar to those delegated by supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or Doctor of Science degree in Engineering, Architecture, Sleep Science, or Data Science.
  • Knowledge in HVAC systems, human thermoregulation, sleep science, built environment performance assessment, and occupant analysis or simulation.
  • Data processing and analysis proficiency using R, Python, or similar software.
  • A demonstrated interest and experience in conducting human subjects research in related areas.
  • Skills in developing control strategies.
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications.
