Chief Commodities Strategist

We are seeking a seasoned professional to drive our 3rd Party Origination strategy, working closely with key stakeholders in our global commercial hub. As a pivotal role in value optimization, this opportunity will challenge you to develop trading strategies and support the execution of key value capturing opportunities.

About the Role

This position entails being the subject matter expert on trading strategy development and supporting the execution of key value capturing opportunities relating to product trading, structuring, origination, and sales. You will work collaboratively with teams to drive commercial changes in business processes that foster continuous improvement.

ResponsibilitiesOrigination
  • Develop and structure solutions to unlock offtakes, including pricing strategies, product transformation, financing, time arbitrage, and logistical solutions with risk-return assessment.
  • Manage the 3rd-party Book end-to-end flow, including allocation and inventory planning, and manage risk exposure with physical and derivatives tools.
  • Maintain knowledge and expertise in the high-grade iron ore market, leveraging product knowledge to build synergies with our overall IO book.
  • Work with Market Analysis and Competitor analysis to maintain high-grade market intel.
Portside Integration
  • Align marketing strategies between Portside and IO Book, product strategy, and product placement.
Project Management and Business Improvement
  • Lead complex projects across multiple teams to deliver commercial changes in business processes that foster continuous improvement.
About You

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A recognized University degree.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in the commercial commodities sector, across sales & marketing, supply chain, and trading.
  • Experience with derivatives trading and exposure management.
  • Prior experience in the iron ore market or another commodity is preferred.
  • Ability to manage external and internal relationships and influence commercial outcomes.
