The role of a Workplace Mental Health Specialist involves providing clinical support services to improve workplace mental health and manage traumatic incidents. This includes offering consultation, training, counselling, and care for employees.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide coaching and support to staff who seek assistance and connect them with suitable agencies for ongoing care.
  • Respond to workplace incidents that impact employee mental health.
  • Deploy trained peer supporters to address reported incidents.
  • Monitor the progression of incidents and make necessary recommendations.
  • Offer guidance and support to management on issues related to employee welfare and crisis intervention.
  • Develop policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Peer Support Program (PSP).
  • Oversee and supervise peer support group members and their activities.

In the event of a Civil Disaster, Emergency, or Crisis:

  • This position requires taking on additional roles and responsibilities, including overseeing the operation of the peer support crisis team during activation.
  • Collaborate with emergency operations teams.
  • Schedule group crisis interventions as needed, such as debriefings or Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD).
  • Provide emotional support to crisis team members.
  • Arrange for operational and psychological debriefings for activated crisis team members after the situation has stabilized.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • A Master's in counselling or postgraduate degree in psychology is preferred.
