Head of Ocean Transportation
Pacific International Lines (PIL) is a global leader in the shipping industry, with over 55 years of experience driving innovation and sustainable solutions. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our Liner Operations team.
The successful candidate will oversee the operational excellence of our liner operations, ensuring that we maintain our commitment to safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This includes managing fleet performance, stowage planning, scheduling, and handling dangerous and special cargo bookings.
- Lead a team of professionals to drive efficiency and cost-effectiveness across vessel operations.
- Oversee and develop operational processes through automation and digitalization initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to optimize fleet routing and manage emissions.

Responsibilities:
- Liner Ops: Lead the teams managing vessel operations, stowage planning, scheduling, and review of hazardous and special cargo bookings.
- Fleet Performance Management: Manage fleet performance and service reliability for PIL Long Haul, Short Sea, Subsidiary & consortium services.
- Cost Optimization: Minimize impact to service reliability and cost to operations by managing service recovery and providing alternative options, driving root cause analysis, and implementing preventive measures.
- Process Improvement: Devise and implement liner operations KPIs and regularly review their effectiveness.
- Stowage Planning: Deliver optimized stowage plans for PIL operated vessels that maximize vessel space as per declared basic slot agreement, while simultaneously looking for opportunities to exceed this target.
- Crane Productivity: Maximize crane intensity for each class of vessels and develop programs for sustained higher crane productivity utilizing cycling, twin picks, or tandem lifts.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines for dangerous goods and regularly conduct reviews on PIL prohibited list of commodities.
- Port Turnaround Times: Continuously improve port turnaround times and operational processes.
- Budget Management: Prepare and manage budgets including for fuel, bunker quantity surveys, etc.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the OPPC Terminal Procurement and 3PF team to provide necessary support and develop service level requirements.
- Strategic Initiatives: Support Division head in crisis management and support other strategic initiatives as directed by the Division Head and senior leadership.
Requirements:
- Degree in Maritime or equivalent professional qualifications.
- Degree in Business Management is an advantage.
- At least 10 years relevant liner and marine operations experience with global container liner companies.
- Sea going experience with master's ticket is an advantage.
- Experience in leading teams, ability to handle multiple projects, work well under challenging demands, self-driven, and results-focused.
- Good command of English.
- Excellent Microsoft Office and dashboarding skills. Advance certification in tools like Power BI, Tableau, Qlik View/Sense preferred.
