Job Overview:

The position of Research Scientist is now open. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed researchers and contribute to groundbreaking projects.

About the Position:

  • The selected candidate will work closely with Associate Professor Chew Fook Tim on a research project focused on plant genetics and breeding.
  • Main responsibilities include germplasm evaluation, key phenotypic definition, characterization of genetic control, cultivar development, integration of genomic data, multi-location trial evaluations, and further value chain assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Germplasm Evaluation and Assessment: Evaluate and assess germplasm to identify potential traits and characteristics.
  • Key Phenotypic Definition and Evaluation: Define and evaluate key phenotypes through molecular and biochemical bioassays.
  • Characterization of Genetic Control: Characterize the genetic control of traits and characteristics.
  • Cultivar and Lines Development: Develop new cultivars and lines through breeding and selection.
  • Integration of Genomic Data into Cultivation Processes: Integrate genomic data into cultivation processes to improve crop yields and quality.
  • Multi-Location Trial Evaluations: Conduct multi-location trials to evaluate the performance of new cultivars and lines.
  • Further Value Chain Assessment and Development: Assess and develop the value chain for new crops and products.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences or Molecular Biology/Biochemicals.
  • Ability to code in R and perform statistical analysis relating to Genome-wide Associations Studies, eQTL analysis, Differential Gene Expression, Global Methylation Analysis, Mendelian Randomization, and Genomic Selection.
  • Experience in conventional plant breeding is an advantage.
  • Experienced in crop cultivation and breeding.
  • Strong motivation and leadership in pursuing challenging scientific questions and leading a team of co-workers.
  • Work well with interdisciplinary colleagues.
  • Mentoring and training junior researchers.
  • Excellent scientific written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good time and resource management skills.
