This is a rare senior role with broad management responsibilities suited to those looking to make the next step in their career. We are seeking someone with 10+ years of corporate legal background to manage the legal and compliance team in Tokyo.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting business operations and counseling business teams with respect to day-to-day matters as well as key strategic initiatives.
  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of contracts.
  • Ensuring the smooth running of the corporation from a legal, general corporate perspective.
  • Coordinating with regulatory bodies in Japan.
  • Working closely with business teams to establish and implement policies, procedures, and training.
  • Partnering closely with internal and external stakeholders.
  • In the future, building a legal team in Tokyo and Singapore.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in law, or related field.
  • 10+ years of corporate legal background. Experience in the digital asset space is welcome but not a requisite.
  • 10-15 years of law firm or in-house legal experience with a global company.
  • Qualified in Japan or English-speaking jurisdiction.
  • Top tier law firm experience or in-house experience.
  • Prior experience with financial regulations is necessary.
  • Knowledge of payment laws is a plus.
  • Advised/worked with fintech firms in the past is an advantage.
  • Fluent in Japanese, very strong Business English.
