Job Description

The Senior Mechanical Designer plays a pivotal role in overseeing and reviewing mechanical design work, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and technical standards. This includes reviewing specifications, schedules, datasheets, drawings, and 3D models to guarantee their accuracy and compliance.

This senior professional creates and reviews all design deliverables, including design specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations. They possess an in-depth understanding of CAD and BIM design software and are responsible for creating comprehensive designs that meet the needs of clients and stakeholders.

The candidate will review clients' or third-party designs and information to determine suitability and liaise with those concerned to obtain further information if necessary. They will also have experience gained by delivering projects across the complete project lifecycle, from front-end engineering design (FEED) through detailed design, technical assurance, testing and commissioning, and final handover.

The successful candidate will challenge client asset standards where a clear opportunity exists to use an alternative, cost-effective process or product without reducing the overall outcome. They will carry out tender bid analysis for various items of plant and complete deliverables on time and to budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and review mechanical design work to ensure quality, safety, and technical standards
  • Create and review design deliverables, including specifications, schedules, and drawings
  • Review clients' or third-party designs and information to determine suitability
  • Deliver projects across the complete project lifecycle, from FEED to final handover
  • Challenge client asset standards to identify cost-effective alternatives
  • Carry out tender bid analysis for plant and equipment
  • Complete deliverables on time and to budget
Required Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this role, you will need a strong educational background in Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical design works, preferably with contractor experience in the water and wastewater industry, is required.

Experience in water and/or wastewater treatment processes and relevant mechanical design criteria will be advantageous. General experience in other discipline criteria associated with water and/or wastewater treatment, including civil, process, EICA, and project management, will also be beneficial.

A general understanding of client regulatory environments and budget management experience will be advantageous. Ability to rationalize designs and produce economic plant layouts is essential.

  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  2. 8+ years of experience in mechanical design works, preferably with contractor experience in the water and wastewater industry
  3. Experience in water and/or wastewater treatment processes and relevant mechanical design criteria
  4. General experience in other discipline criteria associated with water and/or wastewater treatment
