Job Overview

The primary responsibility of a Vessel Manager is to oversee safe and economical vessel operations, ensuring compliance with OSM Thome and owners' commercial requirements. This involves providing essential support to vessels, addressing emergencies, and maintaining adherence to International Marine regulations.

Some of the key duties of a Vessel Manager include:

  • Implementing and maintaining a safe, cost-effective, and environmentally sound operation standard for assigned vessels.
  • Managing daily vessel operations according to OSM Thome & Best Practice guidelines.
  • Providing advice to Masters/Chief Engineers and Ship Staff on cargo, tank/hold, port, anchoring, and mooring operations, as well as technical/engine room operations, port, passage, and war information, insurance coverage, and other relevant matters.
  • Monitoring the onboard maintenance system (BASSnet), following up on overdue items, and taking necessary actions.
  • Evaluating and monitoring required reporting from vessels, acting accordingly, and informing relevant office sections and external bodies.
  • Following up on class and statutory certification status, condition of class, and arranging necessary surveys and inspections (flag state, certification for Panama Canal, etc.).
Shipboard Inspections
  • Conducting regular visits to vessels (at least three times a year) and completing a Superintendent Visit Report. Conducting inspections during these visits and following up with vessels/office to close noted deficiencies.
  • Preparing a Vessel Visit Executive Summary for each shipboard attendance.
  • Fulfilling audit and inspection report filing/updates in Common drives or Database as applicable.
Crew Management and Support
  • Making performance evaluations of Masters/Chief Engineers assigned to vessels under supervision.
  • Providing input to Manning Department on recruitment of Senior Officers for assigned vessels.
Dry Docking & Repairs
  • Planning, managing, monitoring, and executing vessels repairs, dry dockings, and conversions within agreed parameters.
  • Coordinating and following up repairs and services.
  • Collaborating with assigned vessels, preparing dry-docking specification in conjunction with Docking Superintendent, Fleet Services, and submitting specification to yards for quotations.
  • Attending dry-docking, discussing shipyard invoicing, and presenting same to Fleet Group Manager and/or Chief Operating Officer for approval.
  • Preparing docking report.
