The Legal team is accountable for overseeing the legal affairs of the organization, including providing strategic legal counsel to cross-functional teams, managing disputes, and safeguarding intellectual property.
This critical role performs a pivotal function in the business by advising and enabling commercial teams with expert legal guidance and representation whilst always protecting the interests of the company. Your client base will be the commercial groups across the Asia Pacific Region embracing revenue growth, marketing strategies, product development, and commercial transformation. This position works closely with the Global Legal Team, Product Legal, Privacy teams, Global Contracts Management teams, Corporate Legal function (including Litigation, Employment, and Legal Operations), corporate finance, corporate governance, and compliance.
As the subject matter expert for all commercial legal affairs within the Asia Pacific Region, this leadership role ensures the effective delivery of legal services to operational commercial groups by advising and enabling clients to achieve their business objectives while safeguarding the company's interests.
In addition to these individual responsibilities, this role collaborates with other members of the global legal team to ensure a collaborative, specialized, and world-class legal affairs group.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic advice and support for commercial teams and all commercial activities across the APAC region.
- Manage a team of lawyers located in various countries across the APAC region (Australia, China, and Korea).
- Partner with senior commercial management and play a key role in senior commercial leadership teams across the APAC region.
- Analyze the organization's regional legal and corporate risk, offering alternatives and recommendations as required.
- Draft and negotiate major commercial contracts in support of commercial activities across the APAC region, in collaboration with the Global Contracts Management teams.
- Advise and support commercial activities, including sales, e-commerce, distribution, commercial transformation, marketing, medical affairs, and compliance.
- Advise on innovative go-to-market strategies, including novel pathways to reach patients in non-traditional ways, with a focus on developing and implementing strategic and operational objectives that help achieve organizational mission and departmental goals.
- Coordinate activities with global counterparts to deliver repeatable and predictable legal advice to commercial clients, other global commercial lawyers, and global commercial offerings.
- Provide education and awareness to client groups on relevant laws and practices.
- Oversee a legal budget and engage outside legal counsel as needed.
- Attend to special projects assigned from time to time.
- Ad hoc travel across the APAC region and to the US.
