The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at NanyangTechnological University is an interdisciplinary School that aimsto be a world leader in environmental research focusing onenvironmental challenges in Asia. ASE integrates earth andenvironmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology,human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address keyissues of the environment andsustainability.

The research laboratory onResilient and Inclusive cities at ASE addresses importantchallenges related to rapid urbanization and climate change inAsia-Pacific. It focuses on understanding and modelling thebenefits of nature-based solutions - e.g. urban parks or peri-urbanforests, road trees, green roofs - in the region to inform policyand practice, and create more resilient and inclusive cities. Theresearch uses an interdisciplinary lens, combining geospatialmodeling of urban environments and empirical studies of urbanpractice.

The laboratory is currently lookingfor a Research Assistant to support the assessment of naturefutures in new cities in Southeast Asia. The successful candidatewill lead the analysis of nature values for a dataset of SoutheastAsian cities.

Key requirements andcompetencies:
  • BSc inLandscape & Urban planning, Geography, Environmental Sciencesor equivalent
  • Experience in urban or regionalplanning in Southeast Asia
  • Strong interest orexperience in nature-based solutions in urbanenvironments
  • Great attention todetails
  • Experience in managing large datasets(e.g. Excel, databases or other tool) is anadvantageous
  • Strong proficiency in GIS softwareand geospatial modelling software ispreferred
