The Opportunity

The successful candidate will join the Government Projects team at the Chandler Institute of Governance (CIG). They will lead a cluster of our projects, work closely with our executives to deliver success, and report to our highly experienced deputy director.

Our team brings government clients around the world together with our global network of governance practitioners, experts and former government leaders; people who can speak with authenticity and give practical advice based on experience and expertise.

Our projects design and implement solutions that strengthen nations by setting the foundations of good governance. We are continuously developing our offer through our projects, from improving Civil Service capability or institutional integrity, to realising ambitious visions for High Performance Governments and more.

Our approach is sustainable (we aim for long-term changes that can outlast our projects), practitioner-focused and uses a range of proprietary methodologies. The successful candidate will be expected to align with our values and understand how to apply our methods, as well as draw on their experience and expertise to help us learn, from project-to-project, through Rapid Incremental Improvement.

Core Responsibilities

  • Scope, design and execute projects that will improve the quality of governance for public sector Ministries, Departments and Agencies
  • Partner with our clients to understand the key areas of institutional development that could improve the quality of governance, and place these in the correct context of learning and technical interventions appropriate to that nation and culture
  • Identify and work with subject matter experts to deliver our technical projects
  • Work with the Chandler Academy to deliver learning that complements our government consulting offer
  • Lead and coordinate programme and project organisation and administration, which includes but is not restricted to management of logistics and provision of learner and partner support
  • Work with our executives to support our top management and experts in-country, to make the most effective use of their expertise and influence
  • Undertake any other responsibilities related to CIG's projects and programmes, as may be reasonably expected given the candidate's experience and capabilities

Experience & Skillsets

  • An ideal candidate for the Senior Manager role would have at least 7-8 years of work experience in achieving impact through practical, public-sector related work.
  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative measures to drive success would be an advantage.
  • The senior manager role is client-facing, so the successful candidate will need to be able to work with and influence people from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and levels of seniority. Consulting experience is considered useful, but not essential.
  • The role requires a fair bit of travel so the ideal candidate must be able and willing to do this.
  • Motivated to achieve excellence. It also means being willing and able to learn by doing, and to take on board feedback appropriately. You will also need to be proactive about ensuring that work gets completed to a high standard and on time.
  • You must believe in our mission and our goals. Knowledge and skills can be learnt over time and the organisation can commit to supporting you in that regard. However, you must be motivated by our mission and goals to want to do so.
  • Adaptable and resourceful. You may be asked to go beyond your specific job scope and to find innovative solutions in response to new challenges and opportunities.
  • Able to effectively multi-task. You will be managing several concurrent projects with different partners and timelines, whilst still paying close attention to the details.

Work Arrangements

CIG adopts a hybrid working arrangement which allows for a mix of in-office work and telecommuting, either from Singapore or other countries.
