Job Description: General Manager – Ship Repairing Service CompanyOverview:

The General Manager (GM) of a ship repairing service company is responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations, business development, financial performance, and customer satisfaction. This role involves strategic planning, team leadership, and ensuring that ship repair projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards. The GM will also drive growth by expanding client relationships, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring profitability.

Key Responsibilities:1. Strategic Planning & Business Development:
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow the ship repair business and expand market presence.
  • Identify new business opportunities, partnerships, and client acquisition strategies.
  • Ensure strong relationships with shipping companies, port authorities, and regulatory bodies.
2. Operations & Project Management:
  • Oversee ship repair and maintenance projects, ensuring quality, safety, and timely delivery.
  • Implement best practices in project management, resource allocation, and cost control.
  • Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, classification society standards (ABS, DNV, Lloyd's), and safety protocols.
3. Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and profitability.
  • Monitor financial performance, revenue growth, and operational costs.
  • Optimize pricing strategies and contract negotiations to maximize revenue.
4. Leadership & Team Management:
  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, supervisors, and administrative staff.
  • Foster a strong company culture with a focus on teamwork, accountability, and performance excellence.
  • Conduct performance reviews, training programs, and succession planning for key roles.
5. Customer Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, operators, and marine service providers.
  • Address customer concerns and ensure a high level of client satisfaction.
  • Develop long-term service agreements and maintain repeat business.
6. Compliance & Safety Management:
  • Ensure all ship repair activities comply with international safety and environmental regulations.
  • Implement and enforce occupational health and safety (OHS) policies in shipyards and dry docks.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting the ship repair industry.
Job Requirements:Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in the maritime or ship repair industry, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
  • Strong background in ship maintenance, repair operations, or shipyard management.
Technical & Business Skills:
  • Knowledge of ship structures, propulsion systems, and marine engineering standards.
  • Experience with contract management, pricing strategies, and negotiations.
  • Understanding of financial statements, P&L management, and cost control measures.
  • Proficiency in industry software for project planning, maintenance management, and reporting.
Soft Skills:
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on operational efficiency.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Certifications (Preferred):
  • Marine Safety and STCW certifications.
  • Project Management Certification (PMP) or Six Sigma for process improvement.
  • Leadership or Executive Management training in the maritime sector.
Work Environment:
  • Shipyard, dry docks, and corporate office settings.
  • Frequent interaction with customers, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
  • May require travel to different ship repair facilities and client locations.
