Roles & Responsibilities

The Role:

The successful candidate will be based in Singapore, leading Operations oversight covering Middle Office / Investments oversight and Distribution Operations oversight to support business growth across Asia Pacific.

The candidate is also expected to work closely with Asia Investment Teams, global implementation team, APAC Product and Distribution teams on both BAU changes and strategic projects, such as operational readiness for new fund launches, transition of fund management activities, operational readiness to support investments on new markets or new instruments, fund registration for retail distribution in the various Asian jurisdictions.


Key Responsibilities for this role:

Middle Office / Investments Oversight Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with the global Head of Middle Office Outsource Services, the Supplier Oversight and Supplier Management teams to participate & contribute on KPI monitoring, and manage middle office and custody service delivery in supporting Asia Investment Management and Dealing activities
  • Liaise with front office and global implementation team and middle office change team to enable growing investment capability into new markets and new instruments
  • Oversight of Asia Investment Management & Dealing teams in addressing exceptions and escalations with Middle Office & Custody service providers on day to day investment operations related matters
  • Successful resolution of operational issues and emerging risks in APAC regions through the central Middle Office oversight teams, and to drive for issue resolution & process improvements wherever possible. Review service levels and ensure they are delivered & maintained by the Middle Office & Custody service providers to the M&G Asia investment teams
  • Collaborate with line 1b and line 2 control functions to continuously assess and evaluate operational risk on existing processes

Distribution Operations Oversight Responsibilities

  • Drive collaboration between M&G Asia Distribution teams /clients and the Global Client Support team / external Fund Administrator / Transfer Agencies on clients onboarding, annual reviews and client queries
  • Assist the Head of APAC COO with review of existing operation processes and procedures alongside continuous improvement needed to support APAC growth strategy, e.g. drive for process improvement and communication / engagement between Asia Distribution team and UK/Europe Client Service / Operations team and external service providers
  • Improve the engagement model with Asia distribution teams and the global supporting functions such as Operations, Client Support, Client Due Diligence, Fund Administrator / Transfer Agency, and Finance team, to ensure efficient client onboarding, fund onboarding with clients and ongoing client support on investor transactions related query management

Change Management, Governance & Controls and IT/Network Support:

  • Work closely with Asia Investment Teams, global implementation team, APAC Product and Distribution teams on strategic projects, such as operational readiness for new fund launches, transition of fund management activities, operational readiness to support investments on new markets or new instruments, fund registration for retail distribution in the various Asian jurisdictions
  • Present the MI reporting to internal review forums and committees. Identify areas for APAC team’s focus, for addressing collaboratively with global teams, or for escalation
  • Take on Marketing Compliance coverage for APAC; Transfer ownership of MGI RCSAs (SG, HK, JP, TW)
  • GIM – Delivery of ‘Lead/Deputy’ PM model and FI Dealing Pass-the-Book
  • Further enhancing first link risk coverage to support APAC business growth e.g. HK Retail, FCC, BCM
  • Oversight of IT support model for APAC offices

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

The successful candidate should be a technical expert who has proven transformation and delivery track record across different teams in an organisation – project management, governance & control and/or distribution and investment operations within asset management industry.

Required:

  • Leadership experience in both in-house middle office environment and outsourced middle office model. Experience with vendor management and oversight.
  • Proficient in risk / governance and control oversight within the asset management industry, and experience with Risk Register and Incident escalation process.
  • Experience with Aladdin order management systems, Aladdin reconciliation and trade processing.
  • Familiar with asset transfers, new fund or share class launches, fund restructuring, fund or share class closure.
  • Knowledge in Fund Accounting and Fund Administration functions, cut-off points, e.g. dealing cut-off, valuation points, and NAV publishes, month-end processing and client reporting processes.
  • Strong analytical / system skills with experience in operations oversight and related MI production.
  • Team management experience essential; ideally within a wider global matrix reporting setup.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders across various geographies in particular UK, Luxemburg and external counterparties across APAC.
  • Numerate, logical and analytical approach supported by data-driven mindset. Strong sense of urgency on handling BAU issues and escalations
  • Able to perform effectively under tight deadlines, good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of broad range of asset classes (e.g. Fixed Income, Equities, Convertibles and Derivatives; some private markets experience will be a plus)
  • Good knowledge on FIX and SWIFT framework
  • Experience reviewing procedural / workflow documentation and good PowerBI skills
