1) Claims Handling

Accurate and timely registration, assessment and updating of all classes of claims with required service standards independently.

Independent handling of early claim investigations, complex claims management with direct customers or other cargo interests directly.

To ensure that all claims are filed with our insurers in a timely manner, our insurer must be kept fully updated on the developments of the claims assessment and negotiation and be fully convinced and support any claims settlement prior engaging claimants for settlement discussions.

Reimbursements from insurers will be followed up immediately upon settlement and recourse actions if any will be fully executed.

All commercial teams will also be kept fully updated on the claims developments with their customers and full support is required from commercial team prior declining and/or offering any form of settlement with the direct customers.

2) Survey arrangements

Surveyors and expert's appointment when necessary eg preload surveys, draft surveys, discharge surveys etc.


Ability to assess situations independently and put in place surveyors and even experts on the ground to mitigate further damages or risks involved with cargoes and/or casualties.


Maintain good records of surveyors appointed and surveyor reports and ensure all invoices paid on time, reimbursements obtained as necessary.

3) Insurance Operations

Assist with obtaining information from relevant departments in order to assist with placement of insurances with insurer and/or brokers. Ensure seamless end-to-end insurance operations that supports the businesses. Ensuring all insurance premiums are paid; refunds etc if any recovered and received, records maintained conscientiously.

4) Contract insurance reviews


Timely review of all contracts to ensure terms and conditions agreed within the contract are covered by existing insurance programmes available and propose wordings and/amendments to bring contractual liabilities under existing insurance covers.

If required, additional insurance has to be put in place in order to carve out onerous liabilities in order to ringfence the company's exposures.

This involves full understanding of insurance coverages, insurance terms and conditions so as to be able to fully negotiate and bargain with underwriters in order to achieve best value for the additional covers purchased to enable commercial teams to price their potential business opportunities competitively.

Documentations enquiries such as bill of ladings, switch bill of ladings, loss bill of ladings

Guidance to relevant depts for all Bill of ladings related enquiries.

5) Business Partnering


Build collaborative relationships with business units and ensure that insurance and claims are managed meticulously for both internal and external key stakeholders to achieve business objectives.

Attends to all insurance and claims enquiries from internal and external stakeholders

6) Data Analysis/Loss prevention


Analysis of claims statistics to provide full claims overview, highlight key issues each month at monthly claims meeting to Operations and Commercial team so that loss prevention initiatives can be worked on in collaboration with the relevant depts to prevent recurrences in future with common goal of minimizing claims.

7) Reporting

Prepare monthly claims discussions with Operations and Commercial team.

High risk area reporting, negotiation for additional premium war breach rates and conscientious upkeeping of all internal records, maintaining inhouse database of applicable war breach rates for immediate sharing with commercial team for urgent business opportunities in High risk areas

Premiums payments, updating and tracking coordination with authorizing depts and payment depts

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in relevant discipline
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working in a shipyard and/or shipowner insurance and claims department
  • Skills: Good Communication Skills
  • Verbal & Written, Good Organizing and Planning Skills, good follow up skills
