Regional Underwriting Specialist

Join us as a Regional Underwriting Specialist - APAC Financial Lines We are looking for a key team leadership role that will drive business growth and help shape the future of the Underwriting function across the APAC region. How you will create an impact As a Regional Underwriting Specialist you will provide product and portfolio level support to the Head of Financial Lines and play an integral part in fulfilling APAC Financial Lines’ obligations to our colleagues, our key stakeholders and AIG. Develop and execute business strategy to propel AIG Financial Lines into a significant and profitable long‑term leadership position in the APAC marketplace. Ensure the required standards of governance, systems and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained. Communicate the broader International and Regional Financial Lines strategy to APAC countries and align it with local market dynamics. Drive the APAC Financial Lines vision and value proposition in close co‑operation with Country GMs, the GI International Financial Lines function and the CUO. Develop, position, market and deliver innovative, market‑leading products and services through our geographical framework. Drive underwriting excellence across the Financial Lines business, establishing and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, line setting, standards and guidelines. Ensure alignment amongst Financial Lines underwriting staff on interaction with the Client and Broker Engagement function, other underwriting business lines, Claims, Actuarial, Finance and other functions. Collaborate with Actuarial to create and maintain proper pricing tools and techniques. Conduct detailed portfolio reviews to assess profitability, rate adequacy, product/segment mix and general adherence to agreed strategy. Establish strong relationships with Regional and Country leadership and create mutual understanding of overall Financial Lines strategy and underwriting methodology. Support country teams where needed to help maintain key client and partner relationships across APAC. Support team(s) in making business decisions that leverage expertise, analytical models and powerful tools. Engage with local teams on resource allocation decisions for the Financial Lines Underwriting function in conjunction with Country GM. Develop tools and strategies, in collaboration with HR, to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high performing teams. Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity and inclusion and collaborate with Claims team to ensure a reputation of Claims excellence in the marketplace. Monitor market developments, trends and intelligence on competitors and engage with non‑client/broker external stakeholders such as the Board and regulators, as required. What you’ll need to succeed Strong record in an underwriting role, specifically in Financial Lines technical area. Strong technical Financial Lines skills and solid understanding of the APAC insurance market. Ability to underwrite Direct and Facultative Reinsurance Business. Experience with Major Account Underwriting. Strong relationships with Global, International, National and Reinsurance Brokers and Cedants from around Asia. A strong people person with the ability to collaborate and motivate individuals and teams. A profitable growth mindset backed by underwriting excellence. Ability to understand and manage a portfolio of business in detail, to make the best possible strategic and tactical decisions to improve profitability. Strong communication and PC skills; analytical skills; knowledge of commercial insurance products; knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques. Budget development and expense control skills; ability to manage the business performance of multiple underwriting units; ability to develop and implement underwriting and marketing strategies.
