Our client is a top-tier global oil & gas trading firm and they are seeking an experienced In-House Legal Counsel to join their growing team in Singapore. The role is looking for candidates with prior experience leading a team - this doesn’t need to be a large team, but some hands-on leadership exposure is essential.

Key Responsibilities of this Senior Legal Counsel, Oil & Gas:

  • Advise on drafting, negotiation, execution, and performance of physical and derivative oil and gas contracts for export and domestic sales.
  • Complex, high value, bespoke mid and long-term sale and purchase agreements
  • Provide legal services and support to Trading businesses.
  • Negotiate and resolve disputes related to Trading and other business areas.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and internal regulations concerning Trading and other business activities.
  • Participate in M&A activities and corporate projects, focusing on legal aspects, due diligence, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to negotiate and resolve business disputes.

Requirements of this Senior Legal Counsel, Oil & Gas:

  • 10-15 years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) in the energy and/or oil & gas sector, either from private practice and/or in-house experience.
  • Experience in M&A and knowledge of the energy industry, trade, and shipping law is advantageous.
  • Possess strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Strong experience in commodity trading and related legal matters.
  • Ability to work on a wide range of legal issues, including but not limited to sales contracts, structured transactions, and M&A activities.
